We would like to announce the availability of a new build of Alibre Design 12.1 and KeyShot for CAD 2.0. The mini-release of Alibre Design 12.1 primarily offers BIP export (for use with KeyShot 2.0) and changes the name of Alibre Design Standard to Personal Edition in the title bar, as well as some minor bug fixes.
Who has access to the Alibre Design 12.1 mini-release?
Everyone that currently has access to Alibre Design 12.1 will have access to this release for free. If you do not have access to Alibre Design 12.1, please speak with your Sales representative about software maintenance.
How do I get the new release?
Uninstall your current Alibre Design 12.1 build. Login to www.alibre.com and go to the Downloads page, and simply re-download Alibre Design. You will automatically download the new version. If you would like to confirm you have the newest version, open a 3D model and go to File > Export. KeyShot (*.BIP) should be at the bottom of the export list.
What is changing in this release?
Several small changes have been introduced into the new build of Alibre Design 12.1:

BIP Export is now available via the File > Export menu. This generates a native BIP file that you can open in KeyShot 2.0. It dramatically improves the fidelity of the model, allows you to export section views, and clears up the "missing face" problem some users had reported when using the previous STEP import feature of KeyShot.

The previous product Alibre Design Standard has been changed to Alibre Design Personal Edition in the title bar.
I had Alibre Design Standard but it now says Personal Edition. Did I lose features?
No. If you had Alibre Design Standard before you will not lose any features that you previously had. The change to "Personal Edition" in the title bar is cosmetic and does not affect your license or features in any way.
How can you get KeyShot 2.0?
Note that you must have the new Alibre Design 12.1 to use KeyShot for CAD 2.0. This is because KeyShot for CAD 2.0 only opens BIP files and the new version of Alibre Design 12.1 is the first version that exports BIP files.
You have several options. If you are not current on maintenance, or if you are current and would like to get an additional year of maintenance, then you can purchase Alibre Design maintenance and get KeyShot 2.0 for free.
If you are current on maintenance and do not want to get an additional year with the upgrade to KeyShot 2.0 included, you can purchase a KeyShot 2.0 upgrade for a nominal fee.

Note: Maintenance purchases through the web store will not include an upgrade to KeyShot 2.0.
What are the fundamental changes in KeyShot for CAD 2.0?
Most obviously, the name. KeyShot Web no longer exists. It is now called KeyShot for CAD. This product has several changes from the previous KeyShot Web:
- There are no import filters. It only allows you to open BIP files. For this reason, BIP export is available in the new version of Alibre Design 12.1. Direct BIP export is higher fidelity and much faster than using KeyShot's native file translators, so this is an improvement over the previous situation.

There is no offline rendering - it is real-time only.
What are the new features in KeyShot for CAD 2.0?
There are many great improvements that come with KeyShot 2.0. Please visit the KeyShot website which will list the new features and has a feature release video.
Can I use KeyShot 1.x and KeyShot for CAD 2.x side by side?
Yes. You can have them both installed and use them side by side. Your license for KeyShot for CAD 2.0 is completely separate from your license for KeyShot Web.
I have Hypershot and I heard something about a free upgrade?
Luxion is providing HyperShot users a free upgrade to the equivalent version of KeyShot 1.9. There is no free upgrade to KeyShot 2.0. Please visit the KeyShot FAQ to view more information.
